Peter and his brother Andrew were fishermen on Lake Genesareth, where they first met Jesus. After witnessing a miracle, whereby they caught a multitude of fish, Peter and Andrew decided to follow the Lord.
Peter was present at the many healings and miracles of Jesus and was the first to declare to Jesus, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
In spite of Peter's weak faith, Jesus chose him to be the head of the Church and witness the Transfiguration and the Agony in the Garden. His deep love for Our Lord enabled him to repent immediately after denying Jesus and to work tirelessly to spread His message.
After Christ's death and Resurrection, Peter was imprisioned and escaped with the aid of an Angel. He was believed to have been martyred around 64 A.D. by being crucified upside down.
